The odds seemed in John Krasinski’s favor on this week’s episode of Lip Sync Battle, given that he is a co-producer on the show. But his opponent Anna Kendrick had a secret weapon, and her name was Jennifer Lopez.
But first things first. In the initial, prop-free round of the competition, Krasinski kicked things off with a rendition of *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye,” which was pretty cute. He mimed as if he was a marionette (per the song’s video). He hammed it up, slapping his own butt and even wore a headset mic (although we wonder if he should have been disqualified right there, since that’s a prop).
Kendrick retorted with a rendition of a younger boy band, One Direction, “singing” “Steal My Girl.” And she actually sported her own props: she showed footage of last week’s champion (and Mrs. John Krasinski) Emily Blunt, before revealing that she was wearing a t-shirt with her and Blunt inside a heart together. So, both competitors may have violated the no-prop rule.
Of course, round two was prop heavy, and Krasinski took advantage of that, by wearing a sparkly mini-skirt as he lip-synced his way through Ike and Tina Turner’s cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary.” He had a pretty good concept. What he didn’t have was booty. Or at least enough of it.
And booty was what won the night. Kendrick danced and lip synced her way through the Jennifer Lopez song “Booty,” including Iggy Azalea‘s verse on the song. But when J-Lo herself walked out, it was all over.
